A leisure tour for using only one hotel in Munich
with a minimum of packing & unpacking !

Day 01 - Arrive at MUNICH - transfer to your hotel followed by a city tour .....

A warm welcome awaits all group members upon arrival Munich Airport by your Tour Director who will be with you from now on throughout your stay. – Transfer to your hotel in Munich for check-in and freshen up and then join us for a sightseeing tour of Bavaria´s capital that will show you first the lively city center and its fascinating Baroque architecture. - You will see the neo-Gothic City Hall and may listen to its chimes that sound several times a day. - Close by you will be visiting Munich´s landmark, the Church Of  Our Lady, an imposing late Gothic brick-built cathedral and view the Residenz, a complex of buildings of the 16th to the 19th C. – Some further west from here we will stop at the former Olympic Village with its tower and stadium that holds up to 80.000 visitors and which is covered by a tent roof with a total area of 76.000 sq. meters. - Then, it´s on to see Nymphenburg Palace surrounded by a beautiful park with fountains to visit here its famous Horse Carriage Museum. Admire a coronation coach of Emperor Karl VII and a magnificent collection of splendid coaches, incomparable carts and sedan-chairs used by the Royal Wittelsbach family during the 18th and 19th C and by King Ludwig II. - Back to the historical part of Munich and to its much visited square Marienplatz, you should visit the city´s famous beer hall Hofbraeuhaus. - Stroll through the car-free pedestrian zone with a number of shops, department stores or why not rest at one of the inviting outdoor-cafes watching people walking by. -  Toward evening your Tour Director and motor coach driver takes you back to your hotel for a welcome reception and for a special welcome dinner.  (D)

Day 02: Excursion to ALTOETTING, MARKTL and to PASSAU

During the morning we shall leave for our first excursion to the picturesque town of Altoetting, situated in the charming foothills of Bavaria. This town has been the spiritual center for over 1.000 years and became the most celebrated pilgrimage center of Bavaria, dedicated to the Virgin Mary. A serene atmosphere defines the spacious square Kapellplatz with the Holy Chapel of early Romanesque architecture features a famous carved wooden figure of the Virgin and which is known as the “Black Madonna", a masterpiece of the 14th C. - Following this stop we continue with our drive by way of small village Marktl for our next stop to view its yellow painted house and birthplace of the recently designed Pope Bededikt XVI before we arrive at Passau, situated on the frontier with Austria and terminus of passenger boat service on the Donabe river. In ancient times a fortified settlement of the Celtic tribe, this beautiful episcopal city is crowned between three rivers of the Danube, Inn and Ilz by the former
stronghold “Veste Oberhaus” dating back to 13th and 16th C. - The Old Town is dominated by the Cathedral of St Stephen framed by two symmetrical towers and the vast interior is spoilt by an over abundance of decorative stuccos, frescos and remarkable paintings. Also of much value the organ, the world´s largest of its kind with over 17.000 pipes and 230 stops. – Time is yours now to enjoy this beautiful city on your own before we later this day return to our hotel base in Munich for another delicious dinner and for overnight.  (B & D) 

Day 03: Excursion to REGENSBURG and a BOAT CRUISE to the German Temple "Walhalla"

The third days excursion takes you to the old Imperial city of Regensburg, beautifully preserved reflecting 2.000 years of history. – Crossing its old stone bridge that spans the Danube river, a masterpiece of medieval engineering, you will enjoy seeing a number of patrician houses once belonging to great noble families, religious buildings and towers of all styles erected by prosperous merchants. – You will visit St Peter´s Cathedral, one of Bavaria´s finest Gothic buildings with two impressive spires of the 14th C and windows adorned with beautiful stained glass. The inside presents great treasures like a late Gothic stone pulpit of the 15th C, an Annunciation of 1280 with an "Angel of Regensburg" and the beautiful cloisters divided into two by a central gallery paved with tombstones. To the right stands the Romanesque All Saints Chapel with traces of old wall frescos. – At the square Alter Kornmarkt you will see the city´s Roman Tower that is linked by a covered passage to the Romanesque Ducal Hall, a residence of the Bavarian Dukes which appears in the records during the late 10th C. – Then, time will be at your leisure perhaps for a snack at Germany´s oldest cooked Sausage House, a must for every visitor coming to Regensburg. – Following your lunch break a side trip by boat will take you on the Danube river to visit Walhalla which means “Hall of Dead”, an impressive German temple at the top of a long series of slopes rising above the river. Built by King Ludwig I of Bavaria in 1842 who had in mind a memorial dedicated to great German and European soldiers, artists, scientists, musicians, painters, etc., a final resting place for heroes´ souls. The inside will show an impressive collection of busts of more than 100 personages and beneath the gallery over 60 commemorative plaques honouring other heroes. – After seeing this impressive monument your Tour Director and driver takes you back to Munich for dinner at your hotel.(B & D)

Day 04: Excursion to NUREMBERG

This morning drive takes you to the northern corner of Bavaria and through the Franconian Forest dissected by river systems and light-coloured limestone cliffs and to the historic city of Nuremberg, dominated by a castle, former residence of kings and emperors from the 11th to the 15th C. From its tower terrace enjoy first an extensive panorama of the city, its river Pegnitz and the Rhine-Main-Danube canal before your further route leads you to the Old Town past half-timbered houses and to the restored house of Albrecht Duerer, the famous painter and graphic artist where he used to live until his death in 1528. – Our next stop will be at St. Sebaldus´ Cathedral presents a striking image of the old city, a magnificent church of the 13th C with the tomb of St Sebaldus, an outstanding example of brass art. - Adjacent at the square Hauptmarkt you will enjoy the 14th C “Beautiful Fountain” decorated with fine figures. – On the east side of this square the Gothic church Frauenkirche comes in sight with a remarkable old clock where mechanical figures pacing around the Luxembourg Emperor Charles IV. All in commemoration of the 14th C “Golden Bull” which has fixed for a period of more than four hundred years an important aspect of the constitutional structure of the Holy Roman Empire. – In contrast to these historical event, Nuremberg perhaps is better known for its “Mastersingers” who gave a new impetus to German poetry. - In view of the more latest history, also scene in 1945 of the International Military Tribunal. - Following the years after, Nuremberg became much known for its annual International Toy Fair and most famous for its Nuremberg gingerbread and roasted sausages. - So, why not try a tasty “Bratwurst” here and be on your own before your journey takes you back to Munich in time for dinner. Day 05: Excursion to the “CURCH in the MEADOWS”, to CASTLE NEUSCHWANSTEIN and to the Passion Play Town of OBERAMMERGAU

Another great tour will lead you today right into the Bavarian Alps, first to the small town of Wies and to its “Church in the Meadows” surrounded by forests and meadows that characterize the last slopes of the Ammergau Alps. – A truly masterpiece of a pilgrimage church, built and completed between 1746 and 1754 by the famous domestic architect Dominikus Zimmermann. The simplicity of the exterior contrasts with the glowing richness inside such as woodcarvings, gilded stuccos, frescos, columns and balustrades stand out from the white-washed walls make up an extraordinary symphony of colour, - a most striking aspect of unity and perfect harmony. – Following this impressive site we head to small village of Hohenschwangau, starting point to visit Castle Neuschwanstein, a white towered fairy castle built for King Ludwig II of Bavaria in 1869 to 1886 who lived here for only some more than a year. – Designed by a scene-painter and not by an architect which explains its fanciful gold décor and extravagant paintings. - The artificial grotto with stalactites and a swan, an etymological motif remain a real highlight and evokes the legend of Richard Wagner´s famous opera Tannhaeuser, a theme repeated many times throughout the castle. – Leaving this unreal but unrivalled granite fortress again for our next stop to visit Oberammergau that hosts its world famous Passion Play every 10 years. The play owes its existence to a vow made by the inhabitants of the town after a plague epidemic around 1633 that was miraculously past by. – Time is left to enjoy this attractive little town on your own. See numerous houses with beautiful frescos on their external walls and have a look at the Passion Play Theatre that holds a seating of nearly 5.000 persons. - Visit the magnificent parish church of the 18th C - or just browse through wood carving workshops offering the finest art of craftsmen. - Then, it´s time to return to your hotel in Munich for dinner and overnight. Day 06: Excursion to SALZBURG and to its film location of "Sound of Music"

A most scenic excursion is waiting this morning when your motor coach takes you east of Munich past Lake Herrenchiemsee into Austria. Arriving at Salzburg, one of Europe´s most loved cities nestled between the river Salzach and its towering fortress Hohensalzburg, the symbol of the power of the former prince-archbishops, rises over the roofs and belfries of the town. The city´s skyline is a symphony of Baroque churches, cupolas and steeples. – You will see the Festival Hall, built into a rock wall of the Moenchsberg that attracts with best symphony orchestras and each festival sees the premiere of an opera. - You won´t miss Mirabell Gardens with a number of statues, groups of sculpture, beautiful flowers and remains of a luxurious mansion built at the beginning of the 17th C. – An easy walk will lead you to the dome square to see the Residenz of the former archbishops and site where Emperor Franz-Josef, Emperor Wilhelm I and Napoleon III have met in 1871 after the Battle of Sedan. – Also of much interest to you will be the Cathedral which was built from 1614 to 1655, flanked by two marble towers dominated by the statue of Christ. The interior impresses by its size, richness and by the tombs of the prince-archbishops which may be seen in the crypt. – Nearby Getreidegasse, a lively street and adorned with many wrought iron signs which provide a most picturesque touch while the houses with their carved window frames lend a note of distinction. At house number 9, you are going to visit Mozart´s birthplace where he composed nearly all the works of his youth. The museum is showing a display of
violins including the little one he used to play as a child. See his spinet, musical manuscripts and a selection of portraits and letters. – Following a break, a side trip will take you to the lovely Austrian district of “Salzkammergut” with more than 70 lakes and countless mountain peaks are among the outstanding attractions of this justifiably region. - We stop at the popular tourist town of Mondsee and at its 15th C parish church, site of the wedding scene of the wonderful film “Sound Of Music”. – Enjoy this beautiful city and lake of the same name which is shaped like a crescent moon before we journey back to Munich in time for freshen up and for another tasty dinner at the hotel. Day 07: A day at leisure - CHURCH SERVICE with an ORGAN CONCERT and an evening with music and FOLKLORE ENTERTAINMENT

An almost free day to do as you please. – During the afternoon join us for a private church service with an organ recital. – Toward evening you are invited to a typical Bavarian restaurant in Munich to enjoy a special dinner with wine or beer including local music and folklore entertainment. To end a perfect evening, a valuable gift is given away to each member of tour. (B & D)

Day 08: Last day of your tour

After a good farewell breakfast at the hotel, it´s time to bid “Auf Wiedersehen” to Munich while your motor coach transfer takes you back to the Airport for your check-in. - Say goodbye to your Tour Director and driver and depart for your flight …..! (B)
